Do I have the right to obtain an abortion in Colorado?
Yes. In Colorado, a pregnant person has the right to an abortion at any point throughout their pregnancy. Colorado is working to protect abortion access.
In April 2022, Colorado legislature passed a law called the Reproductive Health Equity Act, which guarantees the right to an abortion. In addition, Governor Jared Polis signed an executive order that helps protect out-of-state patients and Colorado clinics from prosecution. The executive order says Colorado will not participate in any out-of-state investigations involving abortion providers or recipients, as long as the parties have followed state law.
I am not a Colorado resident. Can I come to Colorado to have an abortion?
Yes. There are no residency requirements to receive an abortion in Colorado. This means that if your home state creates barriers to prevent you from having an abortion, you can travel to Colorado to access an abortion.
Are there any restrictions on abortion care in Colorado?
Many states have unnecessary restrictions on accessing abortion care. Colorado has no restrictions for anyone over 18 to access an abortion. There are no limits on gestational age or waiting periods in Colorado for abortion care.
Colorado has the following restrictions, if you are under 18 years of age, and are not emancipated: the abortion provider must notify a parent or guardian that you are having an abortion.
You can opt to come to the clinic with a parent for the abortion or the provider can send a certified letter at least 48 hours prior to the appointment to notify the parent/guardian of the abortion.
The parent/guardian does not have to consent to the abortion.
If you do not want to go through that process and may also elect to go through a process called judicial bypass. This is a process in which a judge reviews the case and determines if the teen can proceed with an abortion without parental notification. We have options for you for lawyers who provide counsel for this service at little or no cost to you.

What if I am not a US citizen?
We do not impose restrictions on undocumented women. We will ask you to bring in a picture form of ID.
What if I need help paying for an abortion or travel expenses?
We work with multiple abortion funding agencies. You can see how to get help with funding for your abortion and/or travel here.
Do I need a driver to get a surgical abortion procedure if I am coming from out-of-state?
Yes, since you will be getting conscious sedation (IV medications for discomfort), we require a driver. You should not drive for the remainder of the day after conscious sedation. If you are unable to find a driver, please contact the office to make a plan. If you come to an in-office abortion pill appointment, you will not be required to have a driver.
Can I get the abortion pill in Colorado?
Yes, but you must be seen in our office. Abortion pill for out-of-state women cannot be conducted via telehealth. That option is solely for patients who are in Colorado with a valid Colorado address. There is no follow up required unless the patient has concerns. We advise the patient to call us first to make a treatment plan if they have concerns.
How long will I need to stay in Colorado?
How long you need to stay after your appointment depending upon the type of abortion you get and how far along you are in your pregnancy.
For a one-day procedure or medication abortion you might be able to leave the state the same day as your abortion or you may have to stay 1 day after your abortion.
For multiple day procedures you may need to stay longer.
